Private Milwaukee school buys neighboring supermarket for $8.25 million. It plans to expand there
A landlocked private school on Milwaukee’s far west side has bought a neighboring supermarket − with plans to eventually expand on to that property.
Wisconsin Lutheran High School, through an affiliate, paid $8.25 million for the Pick ‘n Save supermarket building, 8201 W. Bluemound Road. That’s according to a deed posted online by the Wisconsin Department of Revenue.
The supermarket has a multi-year lease for the building, said Rev. Kenneth Fisher, Wisconsin Lutheran president. He said the school has no immediate plans for the 3-acre site but has long hoped to buy it.
That’s because Wisconsin Lutheran, with an enrollment of around 900 students, is landlocked on its 14-acre site at 330 N. Glenview Ave., Fisher told the Journal Sentinel. The school annually turns down prospective students because it needs more space, he said.
Fisher said the school will update its master plan to consider future uses for the site.
The property was sold to the school affiliate, 1517 Innovation LLC, by 82 Blue LLP, an affiliate of Fox Point-based General Capital Group.
