Pueblo Fire Department fighting large brush fire near Lake Minnequa

The Pueblo Fire Department is currently fighting a large blaze near Lake Minnequa.

Pueblo police responded around 5:30 p.m. on April 10 to a brush fire near Lake Minnequa, Pueblo Fire Department spokesperson Tim Trujillo told the Chieftain.

Trujillo said there were multiple fire apparatuses on the scene. No injuries have been reported, no evacuation orders have been issued, and no structures are currently threatened.

Smoke plumes fill the air as a fire rages at Lake Minnequa in Pueblo on Thursday, April 10, 2025.

The fire is currently burning on the southwest side of the lake and wind conditions are carrying smoke west into the adjoining neighborhood, according to Trujillo.

The size of the fire has not yet been estimated as of 6:40 p.m.

Trujillo said he believes the fire will likely “burn bright” as it ignites cattails before simmering down upon reaching shorter grasses.

“We’ve also activated our local Southern Colorado fire strike team, so that will bring us additional resources from all of our mutual aid providers,” Trujillo said.

Trujillo said the Pueblo Fire Department will continue to provide updates as the situation develops.
