Rain in the forecast could help fire crews with Table Rock and Persimmon wildfires
Rain will finally fall on an ashen landscape in Upstate South Carolina on Sunday and Monday.
According to data from the National Weather Service in Greenville-Spartanburg, there is at least a slight chance of rain at Table Rock State Park from 11 p.m. on Saturday, March 29, through 10 p.m. on Monday night, March 31.
The highest rain chances are from sunrise to sunset on Sunday and Monday. Thunder is likely with some of these, particularly on Monday. High temperatures will be near 70 degrees on both days.
After Sunday and Monday, there is a chance of rain showers from Wednesday through Friday. According to Madeline Stewart, public information coordinator for the Forestry Service, rain will help keep the wildfire where it is as crews work to contain it.
“We’re hoping that conditions, especially rain coming in Sunday, Monday, we’re looking at maybe a few drops today, is essentially going to park the fire where it’s at so our crews have more time to build and fortify containment lines,” she said Saturday morning.
