Texas Rangers investigate after chase, deputy-involved shooting in Lubbock County
The Texas Rangers are investigating after a deputy-involved shooting stemming from a vehicle and foot chase Friday evening in Lubbock County.
The Lubbock County Sheriff’s Office engaged in a pursuit with a black Dodge Charger about 9:15 p.m. Friday near Country Road 3100 and U.S. Highway 84, according to a statement from LSO.
The vehicle traveled into the city of Lubbock, where Lubbock police joined the pursuit.
A spike strip was deployed, which successfully disabled the vehicle. A male suspect, who was not immediately named, abandoned the disabled vehicle and attempted to evade officers on foot, running toward the 1100 block of 57th Street. LSO officers deployed a K9 to assist in capturing the suspect.
The suspect allegedly displayed a weapon, prompting LSO officers to engage the suspect. The suspect was shot by an LSO Deputy at approximately 9:33 p.m. The suspect was transported by EMS to a local hospital for treatment. His condition was not immediately available.
An uninvolved person who contacted the LSO K9 and suffered a dog bite was also taken to a local hospital for treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Deputy involved has been placed on Administrative Leave with Pay as per Policy and Procedure.
