School districts announce delayed starts. Here’s the list
Many school districts are announcing a delayed start as temperatures are expected to plummet across the country due to more arctic air moving across the United States.
A strong cold front and breezy winds will make temperatures feel as low as eight degrees in El Paso on Tuesday, Jan. 21, prompting a Cold Weather Advisory until 10 a.m. on Tuesday from the National Weather Service.
A Cold Weather Advisory is issued when seasonable cold air temperatures are expected.
Bitter cold temperatures are expected in El Paso as a blast of cold air moves across the United States, according to the National Weather Service.
The National Weather Service warns that dangerous wind chills can lead to hypothermia with prolonged exposure, and people should wear several layers of clothing, gloves, waterproof boots, and a warm hat.
With frigid temperatures on the way, here’s an update on districts that will be delayed on Tuesday, Jan. 21.
El Paso Independent School District
El Paso ISD will operate on a two-hour delay on Tuesday due to inclement weather and low wind chills, the district posted.
The morning session for half-day Pre-K is canceled, while the afternoon session will resume as scheduled. Buses will also be on a 2-hour delay.
Canutillo Independent School District
Canutillo ISD will operate on a regular schedule on Tuesday, the district announced on social media.
Heaters will be left on overnight in classrooms, gyms, cafeterias and offices, the district posted.
Ysleta Independent School District
Ysleta ISD has not announced any delays.
Socorro Independent School District
Socorro ISD has not announced any delays.
IDEA Public Schools
IDEA Public Schools have not announced any delays.
San Elizario Independent School District
San Elizario ISD has not announced any delays.
Gadsden Independent School District
Gadsden ISD will operate on a 2-hour delay on Tuesday due to frigid early morning temperatures, the district posted on its website. The delay will impact students, staff and bus routes will run two hours later than usual.
The Coffee with Superintendent event scheduled for Tuesday morning has also been canceled.
Las Cruces Public Schools
Las Cruces Public Schools have not announced any delays.
Fabens Independent School District
Fabens ISD posted that weather conditions are still being monitored to determine the district’s course of action. Parents and staff will be notified by email, social media and the Fabens ISD website.
Anthony Independent School District
Anthony ISD has not announced any delays.
El Paso Leadership Academy
EPLA will begin classes at 10 a.m. on Tuesday due to inclement weather. Breakfast will not be served due to the delayed start.
Clint Independent School District
Clint ISD will operate on a regular schedule on Tuesday. Buses will operate at normal times, but there will also be a second pick-up bus time for students, the district posted.
El Paso Catholic Schools
El Paso Catholic Schools have not announced any delays.
Harmony Public Schools
Harmony Public Schools have not announced any delays.
Doña Ana Community College
DACC has not announced any delays.
El Paso Community College
EPCC has not announced any delays.
UTEP
UTEP has not announced any delays for the first day of its 2025 spring semester.
