Shreveport’s youngest mayoral candidate dies in I-20 pedestrian crash
The Caddo Parish Coroner’s Office identified a Shreveport man wo was fatally struck by an 18-wheeler on I-20 Saturday morning.
The victim was identified as Darryl Ray Ware II, 31.
In 2022, Ware became the youngest mayoral candidate in Shreveport’s history at 29 years old, securing 1 percent of the vote.
According to a press release from the Caddo Coroner’s office, the accident occurred around 6:15 a.m., near Bert Kouns Industrial Loop in west Shreveport. Ware reportedly entered the eastbound lanes after standing at or by the shoulder around marker 8.

Ware died from numerous blunt-force injuries and was identified through fingerprint comparison.
The incident is currently under investigation by the Shreveport Police Department and an autopsy has been ordered.
