South Bend school board reaches deal with Todd Cummings on departure; interim to be named

This developing story will be updated as more information becomes available.

SOUTH BEND — The South Bend Community School Corporation will move on from the era of Todd Cummings as superintendent.

Board Vice President Bill Sniadecki confirmed to The Tribune on Tuesday morning that the board will name a temporary superintendent during a meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 19, and the agenda on BoardDocs has been updated to include that action item. On Wednesday, trustees will consider three candidates to fulfill the role of interim superintendent for the remainder of the school year.

Board member Marcus Ellison confirmed the information provided by Sniadecki was accurate but added that the plans haven’t been finalized yet.

Those candidates for the interim job are current Deputy Superintendent Sarita Stevens, former head of the Empowerment Zone and current Assistant Superintendent of Student Management Davion Lewis, and former Clay High School Principal and current Virtual School Principal Mansour Eid, according to Sniadecki and fellow board member Mark Costello.

The meeting will take place Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at the Brown Administration Building, 737 Beale St.
