Stephen Colbert Audience Goes Wild Over Stinging Observation About Trump
“Late Show” host Stephen Colbert on Monday caused his audience to erupt with one basic observation about President Donald Trump as he discussed the planned tariffs that have spooked Wall Street and threatened to raise prices.
“If you don’t like Trump’s tariffs, and not many people do, don’t you worry,” Colbert reassured his audience. “One day, he won’t be president.”
The audience cheered wildly for nearly 15 seconds.
As the applause died down, Colbert threw a little cold water on the notion.
“Maybe,” he added, noting that Trump over the weekend said he wouldn’t rule out seeking a third term in office.
But Colbert isn’t buying it.
“Who cares what he won’t rule out?” Colbert said. “I won’t rule out lying down on the Krispy Kreme conveyor belt and letting the glaze just take me. But that doesn’t mean it’s gonna happen. The Constitution forbids it.”
