Munford High School will remain closed for the day while Munford Police continue their investigation.

“We want to assure parents, students, and the community that there is no ongoing threat. Additional details will be provided as they become available,” said the police department. “We appreciate the cooperation of the school staff and first responders in ensuring the safety of our students. Parents and guardians will receive further updates from the school district regarding any next steps.”

Community members were in shock Thursday morning when they were alerted about the incident.

Tipton County Schools released a statement on Facebook:

“As we mourn the tragic loss of a highly respected and valued member of our school family today, we offer prayers and condolences to Mr. Day’s loved ones, his friends, and the entire staff and student body of Munford High School. “I heard this morning, you know how rumors get out, but I heard a teacher… maybe committed suicide,” said community member Herb Raley. “This is a tight-knit community here, and it will definitely impact the community and the students if that is so. It will be traumatizing to the students and all the people around here. It’s troubling. I am just praying that is not the case.”
