‘The View’s Sunny Hostin Drags “DEI Hire” Donald Trump: “No Political Experience Whatsoever”

Sunny Hostin was certainly not tuning into the inauguration yesterday (Jan. 20), but she still has plenty of thoughts about our new president. On today’s show, Hostin and her co-hosts offered a heated analysis of Donald Trump‘s second inauguration, with Hostin offering a particularly brutal take on Trump’s second term and the irony of swearing him in on Martin Luther King day.

After noting that she spent yesterday celebrating the holiday and enjoying the company of her sorority sisters at an event in Harlem, then chowing down on some wings with her law school friends, Hostin told the panel she still couldn’t look past “the hypocrisy of having a man be inaugurated to be president on this same day as we commemorate MLK, and that same man saying he was going to get rid of diversity, equity and inclusion.”

Hostin reminded the panel that King wanted both “racial equality” and “economic equality,” which is “something people tend to miss,” including King’s support for reparations. Then, invoking Trump’s remarks about making America “a meritocracy,” Hostin didn’t miss the chance to lampoon his qualifications.

“You’re talking about a man who didn’t become the president of the United States because of merit,” she said. “He had no political experience whatsoever. He had no business experience. He was given everything that he has.”

She then exclaimed, “He is a legacy hire. He is, if anything, a DEI hire: A ‘didn’t earn it’ hire!” while earning a round of hearty applause from The View‘s studio audience.

While Hostin stayed far from inauguration coverage yesterday, her co-host Alyssa Farah Griffin was plugged in while covering the event as a political analyst for CNN. Her takeaway? It’s time to stop using the phrase “normalizing Donald Trump,” because all of this is, well, normal now.

“Whether you like it or not, 75 million people voted for him. He is now as much a part of American history as George Bush, Barack Obama and any other two-term president,” she said.

The View airs weekdays at 11/10c on ABC.
