‘The White Lotus’ Season 3 Finale Preview Teases “Suicide Tree” Fruit, a Violent Shootout, and a Dead Body
Our stay at the The White Lotus Thailand is about to come to a grisly, dramatic end. HBO unveiled a new preview for The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 8 “Amor Fati” last night that promises more suicidal ideation, tense friend group drama, and an explanation to who started the shooting and who eventually dies.
Ever since the start of this season of The White Lotus, we know that this group of tourists’ week in paradise is fated to end in a shooting. Belinda’s (Natasha Rothwell) son Zion (Nicholas Duvernay) hears the violent event unfold during a meditation session and quickly hurries to help his mother. While he’s skulking in the water gardens, a dead body floats past.
So who could the dead person be? Is Belinda in danger now that she’s contemplating refusing Greg’s (Jon Gries) offer to stay silent? Will Timothy Ratliff (Jason Isaacs) find a way to end his and his family’s lives? Will Laurie (Carrie Coon) return to her toxic friend group? Will Rick (Walton Goggins) and Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood) make it out alive?
Let’s break down the preview for The White Lotus Season 3 finale…
What’s In The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 8 Preview?
The White Lotus Season 3 Episode 8 preview starts ominously with masked workers seemingly fumigating the lush jungles that surround the resort. Timothy Ratliff holds one of the fruits that Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger) picked up all the way back in Episode 1. “When we got here, you said something about this fruit,” he says. We cut to him plucking the fruit from the tree.
As the trailer cuts to Greg’s palatial estate, Morgana O’Reilly’s Pam replies, “Locals actually call it the suicide tree.” As music builds, we see overhead shots of pools, the trio of lady friends sunbathing, and then a quick montage of Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong), Belinda in bed, Rick (Walton Goggins) in an elevator, Frank (Sam Rockwell) praying, Mook (Lisa), and Saxon (Patrick Schwarzenegger). Cut back to Pam: “So, don’t eat it.” Timothy just grins.
There’s a picturesque title card of three Buddhist monks crossing a bridge in a jungle and the words: “On the Season Finale of The White Lotus.”
We’re back in Greg’s home. Belinda and Zion are there, and Belinda tells her son, “I’m not doing this. It’s a waste of time. Now let’s go.” Zion looks upset, as does Greg.
We see incense at a shrine being lit, while Gaitok says in Thai, “I have something to tell you.” It’s actually Gaitok who is praying and we cut to a stone monkey in a similar prayer pose. The other security guard asks, “Was it about the robbery?” There’s then a shot of Gaitok watching Valentin (Arnas Fedaravicius) and Fabian (Christian Friedel) greeting the Hollingers back to the resort.
There’s a close up of a Thai dancer curling her fingers and then Chelsea runs into Rick’s arms on a gorgeously lit beach. “I love you,” Chelsea says. After a quick shot of dancers, we see an upset Chelsea whispering, “Please don’t do something stupid.” We go back to their happy beach reunion. Then, Rick tells someone, “I’m going to be okay.” There’s a shot of Rick from behind opening two doors and then a screeching monkey.
Jaclyn (Michelle Monaghan) says, “Have you seen Laurie?” An unkempt-looking Laurie is on the villa balcony looking down, seemingly at Jaclyn and Kate (Leslie Bibb) happily swimming in the pool.
“No one has lived better than we have,” Victoria (Parker Posey) says to Piper (Sarah Catherine Hook). Saxon’s protein shake churns in the blender. Waves crash on the shore. A tearful Timothy says, “I love you so much.”
Monkeys jump in the trees and we’re back in the cold open. Amrita (Shalini Peiris) is in distress. Zion is moving. Frank stabs some kind of stuffed piece of furniture. In between title cards that read, “One Episode Left,” we see a close up of an Adam’s apple twitching, a hand reaching out in the water, Gaitok running, a monkey bouncing on a tree, and a body wrapped in a bag on a gurney on tarmac.
We’re back to Pam and Timothy. She says, “Have a wonderful last day.”
