There’s no reason for Cooper Flagg to change his aspirations

The mere mention of his name makes the hearts of basketball junkies and old-timers and NBA general managers flutter. 

Legendary Celtics GM Red Auerbach had the foresight to draft Larry Bird in 1978 even though he knew he would have to wait a year to sign him, and there isn’t any doubt that he would have waited a year for Cooper Flagg. 

By no means is this saying that Cooper Flagg is The Next Larry Bird. 

There is no Next Larry Bird, even if Jim Boeheim has told us: “To me he’s almost Bird-like.”
