Tiny Lion Cubs Get Very First Vet Exam at Fresno Zoo & People Can’t Take the Cuteness
It’s a special day at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo in Fresno, California. Their two precious baby lion clubs received their very first vet exam! They’re growing up so fast! The zoo celebrated the occasion with the sweetest video on TikTok. And now people online are chomping at the bit to see these two in real life.
The two lions are babies. They were born four weeks ago, making them newborn cubs.
There’s a reason why the two lion cubs had to wait a month before seeing the vet. As the video from the zoo explains, the cubs’ mama, Zamaya, wouldn’t let anyone near them for the first couple of weeks. But don’t worry, that’s totally normal!

The zoo had to get the protective lion mom to let them take the cubs to get viewed by the vet. In the exam, zoo workers were able to draw blood from the cubs and microchip them so they can keep track of them and identify them.
They also confirmed that there is one boy cub and one girl cub — how cute! These two went back to their mom after the exam. But they’ll continue to separate the cubs periodically so they can continue to monitor them and give them their vaccines.
The comments section was positively smitten with the two babies. “Please tell Zamaya that I’m so proud of her! She’s doing a great job!” exclaimed one commenter. “Mama is doing what mama does best, loving her babies,” chimed in someone else. “When does the public (me) get to cuddle them????” joked a third person. “Why didn’t my high school career fair mention ‘lion cub care specialist’ as a job?” one commenter lamented.

While you can’t visit the cubs right now (they’re still too small!), you can see so many other amazing animals at the Fresno Chaffee Zoo. Like other African Lions! Heck, you might be able to see the cubs’ mother, Zamaya. You can also see other creatures like Malayan Tigers, African Elephants, Meerkats, Sumatran Orangutans, or even Sloth Bears.
The zoo not only cares for and displays all sorts of animals, but they participate in conservation too. Fresno Chaffee Zoo supports research projects that protect and preserve wildlife around the world. That’s all to say that by visiting the zoo, you aren’t just spending an afternoon out of the house. You are supporting needy animals everywhere — even these two little cubs.
