Holiday travelers notice closure of long-standing Primm resort

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Many drivers making their way across the state line have noticed a long-standing resort in Primm is closed.

While the town tends to see its fair share of traffic jams during the holiday season, for travelers like Holly Mullen it was smooth sailing Saturday.

“Just a couple of little plugs,” Mullen said. “But of course we have a Siri voice telling us that there’s a speed trap ahead or there’s a road closure. So we’re kind of navigating that way. And, yeah, now pretty clear.”

She and other drivers are happy they chose today to make the trip on Saturday.

“Very glad I came,” she said. “I came through here some years ago. It was four years ago now, where there was a snowstorm on the pass in the desert there coming from Primm. We got stuck in the Primm parking lot for like four hours.”

Mullen and others who have passed through Primm many times realize a familiar sight now looks different.

Holiday travelers hoping to spend the night in Primm, or get one last chance at the casino, will learn they have one less option if they try to go to the western-themed Whiskey Pete’s as the casino is temporarily closed.

“I saw that when we drove in. It was like, there’s no cars, what’s happening,” Mullen said.

In a statement to 8 News Now, the CEO of Affinity Gaming, the owners of Primm’s Resorts said, “As an initial step in the realigning of Primm Valley Resorts to meet the changing consumer demand, Affinity Interactive has temporarily closed Whiskey Pete’s Casino in order to feature new and ongoing investments at Primm Resorts and Buffalo Bills. The team has been working on developing amenities that will better fit our new and current customers.”
