Travel influencer dead at 28 after falling during mountain climbing

A popular travel influencer plunged to her death during a mountain climbing expedition on the north ridge of the Tryfan mountain in Snowdonia, Wales. She was 28.

Maria Eftimova, a civil engineering student at the University of Salford, lost her footing and fell 65 feet to her death last week, BBC reports.

The Bulgaria native was scaling the notorious mountain with her friend Anna and Anna’s father when she suddenly fell.

A nearby team member immediately performed CPR after the accident, however, they were unable to save her.

Eftimova was the second person to die from an accident at Eryri National Park within 10 days.

The mountain, which stands at 3,010 feet, is notoriously one of the “deadliest mountains” in the UK and the world, BBC previously reported.

Following the tragic incident, Eftimova’s friend Megan Griffiths mourned the “free-spirited” adventurer and opened up about her zest for life.

“Maria was a one of a kind person who lived life to the fullest – not only adventurous and free-spirited but also incredibly kind, intelligent and selfless,” Griffith told the outlet.

“Her tragic loss will be felt by so many, and we are absolutely devastated to lose such a precious friend.”

Another friend, Victoria Critchley, set up a fundraising page online that has since surpassed $24,000.

“Maria was an ambitious, bright and cherished, whose vibrant personality, energy and aura touched and uplifted all around her,” Critchley wrote on the listing.

“She had a passion for engineering, having studied civil engineering at the University of Salford and a love for extreme sports.”

“Her biggest passion being Snowboarding, which she was super excited for and looking forward to doing again on her upcoming trip to Austria,” Critchley went on, adding that the avid climber had an “insatiable thirst for life.”

“Tragically,” Critchley wrote, “she was taken from her family far far far too soon.”

The heartbroken pal added that Eftimova’s loved ones, who live in Bulgaria, are facing a challenging time in bringing her body back to her home country.

She added that the fundraiser was created to give Eftimova “the dignified farewell with her loved ones that she deserves.”
