Vance Confronted About Claim That Biden Banned White Air Traffic Controllers
Vice President J.D. Vance was cornered on Fox News Sunday after he claimed that his Democratic predecessors ordered the Federal Aviation Administration ānot to hireā white people.
Speaking with host Maria Bartiromo on this weekendās broadcast of Sunday Morning Futures, Vance claimed that Presidents Joe Biden and Barack Obama prevented white candidates from seeking air traffic controller jobs with the government.
āThere have been a number of lawsuits from people who would like to become air traffic controllers against the Obama and Biden administration, who basically said, āWe were told not even to apply because of the color of our skin,ā because they were white people.ā
He added, āUnder the DEI regime of the Biden administration, they werenāt welcome. It means that we donāt have the best and the brightest sometimes in these positions.ā
Vance was echoing claims from his boss Donald Trump and other Republicans that DEI hiring practices were ultimately responsible for the tragic plane crash that claimed 67 lives in D.C. last week.
But Bartiromo jumped in, noting, āWe knew for years that we had a shortage at air traffic control.ā
Vance then went on, āWell, part of the reason why we had a shortage in air traffic control is because we were telling our air traffic controllers not to hire people because of the color of their skin. That is a scandal. And it is a scandal, thankfully, that has stopped under the leadership of Donald Trump.ā
Unfortunately for Vance, Bartiromo then pressed him further on his claims, asking, āDo you have any evidence that any of those hires that were there at the control Wednesday night were DEI hires.ā
He didnāt. āThis is not saying that the person who was at the controls is a DEI hire, but letās just say, first of all, we should investigate everything,ā he said, adding, āthere is a very direct connection between the policies of the last administration and short-staffed air traffic controllers. That has to stop.ā
