Record TIPS Auction Gives Bidders Highest Yield in 16 Years
The Treasury Department had to dole out the highest yield since 2009 to sell billions in inflation-protected securities.
This afternoon it sold $20 billion worth of 10-year Treasury inflation protected securities, or TIPS, the largest-sized 10-year TIPS auction on record.
The highest yield offered during the auction was 2.243%, nearly matching the yield of 2.245% seen all the way back in a Jan. 6, 2009, auction.
