FDNY: Firefighter critically injured fighting Brooklyn blaze

An FDNY firefighter was critically injured while fighting a fire in a multifamily house on Lafayette Avenue in Bushwick, Brooklyn, on Sunday, Mayor Eric Adams and FDNY Commissioner Robert S. Tucker said in a statement.

The firefighter was working at the second-alarm fire when he suffered a medical event, according to the statement, and then went into cardiac arrest. The firefighter was treated for critical injuries at Wycoff Heights Medical Center and then transferred to Lenox Hill Hospital for further care, the statement said.

The FDNY said it was withholding the firefighter’s name and company until it had notified the family, according to the statement.
