‘We will never be friends’

Chris Hemsworth is just like the rest of us.

When he and his wife, actress Elsa Pataky, bumped into pop icon Billie Eilish at the Oscars last year, the Aussie actor couldn’t help but ask the singer for a selfie.

Eilish obliged and the moment was immortalized on social media, but fast forward one year and Hemsworth wishes it never happened.

During an appearance on The Late Show With Stephen Colbert on Thursday, the Thor star was asked five rapid-fire questions, among them was if he had ever asked a celebrity for an autograph.

After saying that he once asked a football player, Hemsworth revealed that he had a similar moment with Eilish when he asked her for a selfie.

“I got a photo with Billie Eilish at the Oscars,” he shared. “I remember thinking, ‘Ah, don’t do it. Don’t do it.’”

But he said that he and Pataky did it anyway for their kids: India, 12, and 11-year-old twins Sasha and Tristan.

“I was like, ‘No, my kids are going to love this,’” he reasoned. “And then the moment I took it, I was like, ‘I went from work colleague to now like a fan.’ We will never be friends, never be best friends.”

When host Colbert asked him if he had ever worked with Eilish to constitute his “work colleague” comment, the Marvel star said no, but they were the “same industry-kind of colleague, bumping shoulders”.

The late-night host agreed, joking that he too could be “colleagues” with famous people.

“Sure, me and Anthony Hopkins, work colleagues,” Colbert playfully replied.

It appears Hemsworth loves a good celebrity selfie.

At the Met Gala last year, he confessed to breaking the strict no-phones policy at fashion’s biggest night of the year.

Speaking to E! News, he said that he took “heaps of selfies” at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York where the famed event is held annually, during which posting images to social media is prohibited.

“Selfies everywhere. A lot of selfies in my phone. Like, ‘When did I take that? Let’s delete that one,’” he told the outlet.

Despite going rogue with his camera phone, Hemsworth said he and Pataky had the time of their lives.

“My wife and I, we live in Australia,” he told E! News. “So any sort of big awards show, we haven’t become jaded because it’s still new and exciting. And this in particular, eclectic group of people, different than the normal crowd of, you know, film award shows we’ve been doing … sports people, musicians, artists, so we had a really fun night.”
