White House posts AI-style meme of convicted fentanyl dealer sobbing after ICE arrest

The White House appeared to jump on OpenAI’s latest image generator trend by sharing a Japanese-inspired meme on social media of an illegal migrant and convicted fentanyl dealer sobbing when she was nabbed by the feds.

The image, shared on the White House’s X account Thursday, highlighted the recent arrest of Virginia Basora-Gonzalez — a 36-year-old Dominican drug dealer who was previously booted from the US for peddling fentanyl.

ICE agents arrested her earlier this month in Philadelphia after she illegally re-entered the country.

News of Basora-Gonzalez’s arrest immediately made headlines after the feds shared images of Basora-Gonzalez crying as she was hauled off in cuffs.

The meme shared by the Trump administration featured a handcuffed woman sobbing alongside a law enforcement officer.

The image appeared to replicate the new ChatGPT image generator tool that is currently taking social media by storm.

The trend allows popular internet memes or photos to be transformed into the distinct style of Japanese animation studio, Studio Ghibli.

Meanwhile, the teary-eyed drug dealer at the center of the meme remains in federal custody.

She had been living illegally in the US when the Drug Enforcement Administration first arrested her in Pennsylvania for possessing 40 grams or more of fentanyl and aiding and abetting in June 2019, the feds said.

The convicted felon pleaded guilty to the charges and was deported back to the Dominican Republic in 2020 before she could serve her year-long sentence.

It wasn’t immediately clear when she re-entered the US but her return was reportedly flagged to ICE by a confidential source earlier this month.

“The apprehension of Virginia Basora-Gonzalez demonstrates our commitment to protecting our communities from criminal aliens who engage in serious illegal activities that pose a threat to public safety,” Brian McShane, ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations Philadelphia acting field office director, said at the time.

“This successful joint operation exemplifies the collaborative efforts of federal law enforcement agencies to enforce our nation’s immigration laws and remove dangerous individuals from our streets.”
