Yankees hold emotional moment of silence for Brett Gardner’s son Miller

With no words to say to fully capture the heartbreak, the Yankees held a moment of silence for Miller Gardner before Thursday’s Opening Day.

The Yankees honored Brett Gardner’s 14-year-old son, who died Friday during a family vacation in Costa Rica.

“He had a spark in his eyes, an outgoing and feisty personality and a warm and loving nature,” public address announcer Paul Olden said.

Ready-to-cheer Yankees fans in The Bronx went silent. Manager Aaron Boone appeared to wipe near his eye.

“It’s been devastating,” Boone said Thursday morning before the series with the Brewers began. “As much as the excitement of today, there’s no question we’ll be playing with heavy hearts today, and throughout the year and playing with Miller in mind.”
